Our team had the privilege of attending the 32nd Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival, and we were deeply moved by the incredible talent showcased. One film, in particular, resonated with us profoundly: “Arranca,” the winner of Best Drama in the Short Film category.

“Arranca” tells the poignant story of Carmen, a 75-year-old woman navigating the early stages of dementia, and her daughter, Laura. The film beautifully captures the complexities of their relationship as Laura’s demanding life is constantly interrupted by the increasing needs of her mother. The emotional weight of caregiving is palpable, particularly when Carmen loses her cherished emerald ring, a symbol of her late husband Sebastian.
